The Mount Gilead Exempted Village Schools Transportation Department is committed to excellence in learning, leading and making a difference by providing our students safe, friendly and professional transportation services.

Specific bus information for your student will be available one week prior to the first day of school, you will receive an email with bus stop/time information.

School Bus Tracking available for Parents/Caregivers

The Mount Gilead School District has partnered with Viafy to provide parents/caregivers with a school bus tracking service. With Viafy parents/caregivers can easily and securely track a student's bus:

  • no more waiting in the rain & snow for the bus to arrive
  • no more wondering if the bus is delayed or has already passed

Information was emailed to parents/caregivers of bus riders only at the beginning of the school year. If you never received your information or need it resent, please contact the Transportation Director, Lorena Boller, at (419)946-1646. 

 State Law states that students are NOT
permitted to eat or drink on school buses! 

Ohio Administrative Rule 3301-83-08 states:

Pupil management and safety instruction policies shall include the following:

Pupils must refrain from eating and drinking on the bus except as required for medical reasons or as permitted by the school district for non-routine trips during which the pupils on the bus shall be supervised by a chaperone(s) as described in rule 3301-83-16 of the Administrative Code, a school administrator or school personnel.

On a road with fewer than four lanes: 

On a road with fewer than four lanes, all traffic approaching a stopped school bus from either direction must stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus and remain stopped until the bus begins to mvoe or the bus driver signals motorists to proceed.

On a road with four or more lanes… 

If the bus is stopped on a street with four or more lanes, ONLY traffic proceeding in the SAME direction as the bus must stop. 

  • Never pass a school bus on the right
  • All school buses MUST stop before crossing railroad tracks, never pass a bus at a railroad crossing
  • Be aware of school zone signals and always obey the posted speed limits

If caught failing to stop for a school bus, authorities may add 2 points to your license in Ohio and is punishable by fines up to $500. You must appear in court and the judge has the discretion to suspend your driver’s license for up to one year. 

How will you know if school is delayed or canceled?

If we need to delay or close schools, we'll communicate in multiple ways:

  • Social media: Posts on Facebook for Park Avenue Elementary, Mt. Gilead Middle School and Mt. Gilead High School
  • Class DoJo: Posts for Park Avenue Elementary and Mt. Gilead Middle School parents
  • Automated phone calls, emails and texts: Mt. Gilead EV Schools uses One Call Now to quickly reach family of important news and notices. Please check with your school to ensure your emergency contact information is up to date. Note these messages may take longer to send than other communications.
  • News media: Information is sent to TV and radio stations who announce school delays and closures.

You'll be hearing from us if…

  • Your student's pick up or drop off time changes by more than 10 minutes
  • Your student's bus is running 15 minutes late
  • For some reason, there is no bus available for your student's route
  • Your student's bus is involved in an accident
  • Your student is injured on the bus

Parents, we want to hear from you if…

  • Your student has missed 3 or more days so we know if we should save a seat for them moving forward
  • Your student's bus is over 25 minutes late and you haven't received a notification from our department
  • Your student does not arrive to school or home as anticipated
  • Your student receives transportation through the McKinney-Vento program and is going to be absent from school
