Career Technical Education Annual Public Notice
2020-2021 School Year

Each year, the Mount Gilead School District offers career and technical education programs at Tri-Rivers Career Center. These programs are designed to prepare youth for a broad range of employment and training services and are offered under the guidance of certified teachers, counselors, and cooperative education coordinators. The following is a list of programs being offered this year and criteria for admission.

Ag & Industrial Power Technology

6 Core Credits any combination of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education (preference will be given to students who have earned credit in Algebra 1), Minimum 1.0 Cumulative GPA

Stand and work on their feet several hours at a time, Perform the job in hot and cold conditions, Have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to perform mechanical repair, Lift 50 lbs., Read & Comprehend service manual information and instructions.

Advanced Machining @ RAMTEC

6 Core Credits any combination of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education (preference will be given to students who have earned credit in Algebra 1), Minimum 1.0 Cumulative GPA

Comprehend and use measuring devices, Have a desire for problem solving, Have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity, Be mature, self-motivated, and work independently, Read and comprehend material, Meet safety requirements to operate tools.

Automotive Technology

6 Core Credits any combination of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education (preference will be given to students who have earned credit in Algebra 1), Minimum 1.0 Cumulative GPA

Stand and work on their feet several hours at a time, Lift 50 lbs., Perform the job in hot and cold conditions, Have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to perform mechanical repairs, Read & comprehend service manual information and instructions.

Computer Networking Electronics Technologies

6 Core Credits any combination of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education (preference will be given to students who have earned credit in Algebra 1), Minimum 1.0 Cumulative GPA

Read and comprehend instructions, Work independently and in groups, Organize, plan, schedule and prioritize work, Use computer and network tools in a safe and proper manner, Follow written and verbal instructions.

Construction Trades Academy

6 Core Credits any combination of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education (preference will be given to students who have earned credit in Algebra 1), Minimum 1.0 Cumulative GPA

Comprehend and use measuring devices, Work in all types of weather, Be a team player—communicate well with customers, managers, fellow workers, Have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to use hand and power tools.

Cosmetology

2.0 Cumulative GPA, C or better in Biology & other Science Courses, Credit earned in Algebra 1,Excellent Attendance

Use hands to control or feel objects or tools, Stand for long periods of time, See details of objects that are less than a few feet away, See differences between colors, shades, and brightness, Follow confidentiality guidelines used in the profession.

Criminal Justice

2.0 Cumulative GPA, C or better in Biology & Other Science Courses, Credit earned in Algebra 1, Excellent Attendance, Pass a criminal background check, Complete a physical and pass a drug test

Maintain physical fitness standards,  Be willing to demonstrate practical competencies with other students, Maintain paramilitary discipline, military drill and ceremony, Utilize proper telephone and radio policies, procedures, and protocol, Demonstrate water rescue competencies, Have a valid driver’s license by the Spring of their Senior Year.

Culinary Arts

6 Core Credits any combination of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, Physical Education (preference will be given to students who have earned credit in Algebra 1), Minimum 1.0 Cumulative GPA

Comprehend and apply basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide), Tolerate a warm working environment and standing long hours, Practice good communication skills and personal hygiene, Tolerate standing long hours, Exhibit professional work place behavior, Work as part of a team.

Engineering Technologies @RAMTEC

2.0 GPA & Excellent attendance, Math grades and levels will be considered, Credits earned in Algebra 1 and Geometry, Engineering related courses recommended, Your own transportation (if half day program), Must take the accuplacer and apply for College Credit Plus (CCP) by August 1

Have a strong math foundation, Have an eye for detail, Enjoy working with computers and robots.
